What is a MUD?

MUD stands for Multi-User Dungeon, Multi-User Domain, or Multi-User Dimension. Regardless of what it stands for, a MUD is an online environment where multiple users are logged on and interacting with one and other. In Galactic Insights, you can interact with other players logged on in a virtual world, fighting monsters, exploring planets, flying spacecraft, collecting bounties, wielding the Force, smuggling items. You can be one of many races, including an Astromech Droid(R2-D2), a human, Twi'lek, Rodian, or one of our other 20 races. There are numerous classes to pick from, such as bounty hunters, who collect bounties, combatnants who are professional soldiers, slicers who are trained computer hackers, and several others. In Galacti Insights, you take on the role of a character in a virtual universe and can be or do almost anything you want.

  It's all in text? That's stupid.

Okay, then maybe MUDs aren't for you. MUDs are generally for people that like to read, immerse themselves in new lands, aren't afraid to try new things, or like to take on the roll of someone else. Maybe you want to be a Fleet Admiral in command of the Emperor's flagship. Maybe you want to be a computer hacker and plant evidence on the Republic's president and get him killed. Maybe you want to be a bounty hunter and find, hunt, and then kill criminals. Maybe you want to be a journalist and interview the Republic president, and then write and submit a story. Your options are nearly endless. If none of that still doesn't intrigue you, then maybe you aren't a fan of Star Wars. There are other types of MUDs available.

  Help! I'm new and completely lost!

When you click the 'Play Now' link to the right, you will be connected to the MUD. The process you go through creates your character exactly how you want, letting you pick your name, race, class, and even your hair and eye color, and weight and height! This allows you to uniquely fit into our world, but remember, its all in text! That doesn't mean you have to read every last bit of text! When you are ingame, you must type what you want to do! For example, typing NORTH would let you go north, or typing SAY HI would allow you to say HI to someone. It's not overly difficult, but if you logon and find yourself stuck, feel free to use OOC Help, I'm new! and someone would surely assist you. There is also a system of Help files that allow you to type help (something) without the paraenthesis and you would find help on that topic!

  Okay, so how do I play?

  Click the PLAY NOW button on the right navbar in orange. This will allow you to use a telnet client to connect to our MUD. Veteran MUD players already have their own desktop clients they may use, and the connection info is swgi.genesismuds.com:8060.
